How to Prevent Lost Sunglasses With This New Tank Top Design

July 21, 2018

Concept California is more than a series of products, it’s a collection of ideas sourced up and down the coast. If you ever find yourself in Hermosa Beach (or any other park your car for the weekend beach towns) you may find yourself wondering what to do with your sunglasses after the sun goes down. This is the full story and inspiration for the Hermosa Tank.

Losing Sunglasses

If there were such a thing as a reverse dress code Hermosa Beach would have it. “Sorry sir, we cannot serve PBR to anyone wearing a collar and guests have complained that your cologne is overpowering the smell of Banana Boat and salt water.” The point is, when the sun starts going down on a beach day, instead of going home to change and drop off gear, we instinctively flock to the next activity whether it be the local watering hole or a BBQ. There is only one thing that doesn’t make the transition: Sunglasses.

My first pair of Oakley Holbrooks were oh so perfect … dark grey frames and a reflective blue lenses … ranking beautiful things in my life there is my fiance and those Oakley’s not in that order. One horrid Saturday, I went from playing volleyball to a BBQ that would define the rest of my days.

  1. Toss sunglasses in my fiancé’s purse and they get scratched.
  2. Hang sunglasses from the loose collar of my tank top, they fall off, and they get scratched.
  3. Hold sunglasses in hand until putting down to balance a hotdog and beverage and then lose sunglasses.

The Holbrooks fell victim to #2.  First, we tried things like pockets, but they were too bulky and altogether not cool. Second, we tried clips, but adding a hard material to an athletic top didn’t feel right. Finally, we landed on a small slip, that can trap one arm of the sunglasses, while still highlighting your shades. Cool guy who just came from the beach look … attained.

The Solution

On the topic of looks, the design of our Concept tank was really important to us starting with the colors. The deep grey body is meant to make it a staple that goes with any boardies, while the shades of blue on the front pocket represent the spectrum found in a braking wave, with navy at the base, turning to light blue as the sun reflects in middle of a swell, and a translucent turquoise at the peak.

The fit is also designed to be versatile, with a slight inward curve on the sides and a small tail in the back to provide a tailored look worthy of an intense beach volleybaltank top with sunglass holder

l match or a victory celebration. And, the high quality rayon fabric has stretch characteristics to keep things flowing and relaxed just like the day you’ll have wearing it.
Aside from function and style, we wanted to up the quality factor from most tanks found in your local surf shop. Just touching the Hermosa Tank, you will immediately recognize the difference in the fibers. You’ll have to feel it for yourself, the best description is a blend of silk sheets and a marshmallow.

The Result

A tank top so versatile it can save your favorite lenses, while powering the most intense sunup to sundown Hermosa Beach lifestyle. No more mourning the loss of your lenses.
